This is a blog about my life as mom to a severely Autistic, Epileptic, 18 year old, as well as 3 other kids and a husband. I created this blog to spread loving, funny, but REAL awareness about the kind of Autism that no one likes to talk about. For the full experience and updates follow me on Facebook. Read More
Benjamin’s JOLLY and BRIGHT Christmas
It’s been such a wonderful season in Ben’s life. He is just so happy, and talkative, and joyous. Coming off of one of the worst years of dangerous face breaking seizures, it’s so wonderful to see him happy and joyful again. He’s still having seizures, pretty much just as often, but thankfully none that have injured him in many months. (Something we have been specifically praying for, so THANK YOU LORD!) I wanted to share some photos and events with Autism Momma fanbase, (which is currently mostly just people we know, but who knows LOL). Plus, I find it increasingly Read More

Help! I don’t know how to treat my friend’s Special Needs kid!
Do I say hello even though I know he’s not going to say hello back? I mean, he doesn’t talk, right? But wait, maybe he does talk a little. Do I say hello and wait expectantly for him to return the greeting, looking right at him and waiting? I’ve heard sometimes he does talk and I don’t want to be rude and not acknowledge that he can, in fact, do that. Or maybe it’s just that he can’t hear me, maybe I need to move closer, get right in his face and say HELLO over and over again!!!! Maybe that Read More
A Five Step Plan for getting WHAT YOU WANT at your child’s IEP.
Photo from Ben’s first ever yearbook at the LOTTERY WINNING school mentioned toward the end of the post. I have been going to IEP’s for about 13 years now, since Benjamin started school at the early age of 3. For those who don’t know, IEP stands for “Individualized Education Plan”. It’s the place you get together with teachers, therapists, school administrators and parents to talk about and decide, what kinds of special services or school placements your child should have. Your special needs child. It is well known for being something to FEAR and DREAD in the special needs community. Read More
A Letter to my Special Needs Son
(Written 2-20-2015) This afternoon…… you stopped as I hurried you into the car, to say something…. I tried to hurry you on, literally pulling at your Jacket, but you wouldn’t let me. I saw you look down, point, and say, “A Roly Poly!” And there it was, a little bug, wiggling on the sidewalk, and in fact, it WAS a Roly Poly. I didn’t even know you knew what a roly-poly was, much less how to recognize one and name it so clearly. It’s times like this, that break my heart and bring me joy all at the same time. Read More
